^ Then it's up to the members who care (like us) to contribute if necessary. I'm down to donate if need be. But if something were to fail with the code and the site would crash, and only Coomer could fix it...we'd all be royally f*cked. wish there would be away to save all this info... i mean, ive been on celica tech and the uk site, and it is not for a 6gc, not the same people. well, well just keep beating the dead horse, on and on and on.. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... There is no quick fixie here, we need to pick a gear, lose the brakes, and pedal our way towards the future of 6GC. Bring your bicycle helmets.

I think what we really need is to switch gears completely. We have all (well old farts anyways) been on this site since basically day 1. It would be a good idea to take 6gc.net and make it a 6gc.net club welcoming old members back with other cars. Face it lads... celica is an aging car and there is no substitute for it. 90% of people on this forum could not afford to purchase a new celica (if we were to commission some shop out there to actually build brand new 6gc celicas) and 90% of those who left are driving another car. We need to give them a reason to come back. Since our community is a friendly community but its not a "royal following community"... our community is an aging community.
Think of low riders. Does not matter what car you drive as long as its a low rider and is 1900-1980 car. Think of drifer cars. Does not matter what make or model but those lads end up having a heck of a fun time every weekend. Think of mud racers and rally enthusiasts and other car nieches where people kind of huddle together. We rarely have get together events and when we do we usually have questionable turnout. Not like usa is a small country or island nation where there are 100 celicas and all 100 come. That aside I think one of the reasons why we are loosing members is because there is no upgrade for a celica... well there is the 7th generation but we all know that 6gc is the best celi ever. I keep bringing up mutsubishi evolutions (partly since I can practically taste the smell of my future car) but their community is like a cult. Does not matter if you drive evo 1 or evo 10.. you are a part of a special nieche of enthusiasts. In many ways it builds community, especially if your first car was evo and your next car will be evo and your car after that will be an evo etc and all evos kind of flock together. I learned it first hand since I attend evo meets all the time. Here in florida (where we cant seem to properly organize a celica meet) there are several chapters of evo club and they all meet several times a year with a huuuuuuuge turn out. Last one counted like a cajillion cars. All passionate and forever evo addicts. With celicas.. I think we need to bring the old spark back.. well at least people like Ferdie should. They are the "us" from 2002. They just got their celicas and that new smell of an old car is still in their veins and their brains are filled with excitement. In all truth I would not mind pitching in for a website and I am sure other members would too. We could call it the same thing but add a little sense of community into it. It is hard to make people do things they do not want... but regular meetings and outings and other miscellaneous events could potentially bring back our good old community from brink of extinction. Maybe 6gc.net stickers that we can give to all members to promote the site or something... For 10 years I thought of ways to make our community active and after 10 years of theorizing I came to a conclusion that personal commitment is THE key to community's success. Here is a link to what other car communities do on a regular basis. http://forums.evolutionm.net/southeast-reg...9-pictures.html -------------------- Captain Pessimist

You guys are failing to realize one thing. It's not about money. If that were the case, the site would have been long gone a long time ago. Chris has just decided it's not worth it to him to take the time needed to keep the site moving forward. He's busy with other things. It has been that way for a few years now, he just comes around less and less to the post where when the site goes down is the only time he is active now. I have been trying to get him to do a "premium membership" kind of thing or somthing like that for years, to get more pics, more storage, pic hosting ect with nothing to show for it, other than him telling me there is plenty of server space, and allowing me the ability to upload files to be hosted on 6gc for the stickys. It's frustrating for all of us, and it's a shame, because we have a great community of people here, that he created the forum for. It is his vision that brings us all together. No one wants to see this forum wither and die, and as long as the site is hosted and functioning, I don't see that happening , but we as a community deserve to know IF the site will exist in the future at least. /rant. I have been riding my mongoose xr200. Spring, Summer and Fall usually 15-20 miles every day. Here in my gated community we have 26+ miles of paved trails in the forest and while I am a lazy shmuch it was a perfect substitute for when I quit playing video games. After riding 7 days a week I lost 16.5 lbs, gained muscle tone, a tan and overall I actually enjoy riding now. Its starting.... that is kinda iffy. I am taking my 3 month break right now because it gets dark early but will resume in march. I will be riding my bike to work. My new office will have showers there so I will save a ton on paying for gas like I am right now with my 50 mile round trip commute.

Playing sysadmin can be fun at times!". He is of course talking about his new bicycle website http://www.pedalroom.com/. I don't mind the guy having other projects, but I just wish he would jump on here and fess up that he's long lost interest in the site, instead of giving us some BS excuse about how busy he is. This site is 1 missed hosting payment away from being gone forever, and as the years go by, thats getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Just contacted him on pedalroom, voicing my concern. Hopefully he gets back to us in one way or another. I'd hate to see this site fade away. I have huge future plans for my car and desperately need you guys for help in the coming years.

This site is 1 missed hosting payment away from being gone forever, and as the years go by, thats getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. agreed, art. for example, i posted back in october, in the mod forum, about rusty helping reworking the stickys. not a single word from chris. meanwhile, just YESTERDAY, he blogged on pedalroom about working on the site to make it faster. it's a shame to let the future of this site just kinda fall by the wayside. we've got some great people working on things for the celica that were never available back in the day, and guys that have been around since the beginning helping out people when noone else knew how. guys like tweak, who've been around since the beginning, and guys like vincent, the guys at rtp, wolfie, ect who are taking over for and going beyond what guys like doggy ect did for us as a community. just to name a few. i've known we've been driving blind for a long time now, and i've been communicating via PM with lots of diffrent members old and new about various ideas, suggestions, requests ect for the site, which unfortunately my reply 99.9% of the time ends up being "sorry, thats the kind of thing only chris can take care of" and its sad that there is nothing i can do about it. as the guy who ends up looking and feeling like the bad guy because of my "position" on this site, it sucks to know at the end of the day, it really dont make a diffrence at all, because the guy i am supossed to be helping out really dont give a good sh*t about the site anymore. its really just getting old at this point. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I propose the creation of a back-up site, and letting EVERYBODY know of it. Put dedicated members from here in charge of it (I nominate Michelle, being the sexiest beast of us all, to run the website since she knows how). That way, if this page ever comes up as site not found...we at least have a meeting place to try and recover information and membership. If need be, we can make that the new 6gc.net in case this site fails. We need a place to carry on this community.

If we make a "backup site" we might as well just make a new site to move onto on our own. Problem with things like that is that we will loose a lot of members as some people will either not get the memo or not want to move. This similar thing happened with celica.net back in the day. The moderators had issues with the sites owner not being involved, so one day they just had enough an created celicatech, copied any important posts over, and deleted just about everything on the old site. If this place ever explodes, I'll probably just be on celicatech. Worst part about all of this is that I sent chris a msg over twitter saying that 6gc doesn't know what its like to have a sys admin, and sadly he just ignores that and any msgs people send him about this site and doesn't even bother to come in here to see whats going on. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

The only solution to this problem is out of our hands. As long as Coomer is the Admin we all have to live with the site's current settings. Perhaps someone should contact him and offer to buy out the site.

Yeah 5 people would remember it and everyone else wouldn't know what happened. In all honesty, I think Coomer should hand the site off free of charge to Manny. This site has zero advertising and generates no income. Its only value is its loyal users that made it what it is over so many years.
The saddest part about all of this is that the changes that people want are 5minutes and 3 mouse clicks away from happening. And yet we can't even get that much to happen. What if we all join together and all send him a message on pedalroom or twitter or anywhere? He'll come in here and say "oh sorry guys, ive been super busy with work. I promise the site wont go away and ill do what needs to be done", then we wont see him for another 3yrs. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
