Hi guys, my dad says that since I plan on putting so much into my celi, (interior and exterior red glow, seats reupohlstered in red/black leather, reverse glow gausges, etc...just bragging biggrin.gif ...) that I should get a fuel cut-off switch hidden in the car to turn off when I leave so the car only has enough fuel to get a few blocks if stolen unless the switch is turned back on. (It closes the fuel line from the tank and leaves the engine with only what it already has) I was just curious as to any methods you guys think would work. I told him the security system I'm leaning toward has starter kill. What is starter kill and is it effective? My dad says that a fuel cut-off is the best bet and I just want to know more about it and how much it would cost and just some general info. Also I would just appreciate any ideas that anyone might have (bucket of water hanging over driver door, giant rolling boulder, boxing glove on a spring, ejector seat, etc.) lol but I seriosly do need ideas. Help me out!!!

P.S.- Sorry for this LONG ASS post!

they dont need to start your car to steal anything..

Ive read somewhere about a safety system that engages your brakes when you hit something.. with that no one can move you car at all

I forgot to mention that the car would be parked in a University parking lot so, while it may still be easy to steal, it might be impractical to gut the car with the night watch on patrol...

id say wire up a switch to your fuel injection fuse in your engine bay, with that fuse disconnected your car will turn over but not start.

as far as protecting your insides, tinted windows and an alarm are about all you can do.

That fuel injection fuse sounds like a good idea. BTW, I've been meaning to ask about our car's specs. Fuel injection was one of my questions. Does anybody know how to wire that? Or does anyone have any other ideas that may be better or easier or just different. Not to put down your idea, but its always best to get as many as possible...

i've heard of the fuel pump cut switch before. i had thought it was more of an electrical cut-off switch, than something mechanical that closes the fuel line.

i was also under the impression that the amount of gas stored in the engine wasn't enough to get the car anywhere.

i'm not a mechanic though, anyone with more knowledge want to educate me on these points?

its good to tell people the security in your cars. makes it easier for them to nick if they know roughly where you live!

You could put a switch in the positive wire to your fuel pump. Or you could put a mechanical tap in your fuel line. Both would be similar result but the switch would be easier to hide.

Shaved handles means taking out the keyhole and handles and welding a plate in its place, then the door would be popped open with a solenoid wired from your alarm spare.

Whenever you go to park it, just bring a handful of tacks with you. Throw them in front and back of your tires. lol. Just dont forget to remove when you get ready to leave. a theif isnt gonna pay any attention to that. buying new tires is better than buying a new car and finding yours burned down in a feild somewhere stripped completely of anything of any value. (i have a friend that had that happen too) also, i removed the trunk switch in my cab so that you have to have the keys to get into the trunk.

oh my god...all though i was joking about the whole tack thing...i just realized...that might actually work...lol

Whoa....great thread, I think I need to put a post-it somewhere to remember to come back here. Theft is a HUGE problem where I live, and if they caan't steal the car, they do their best to break into it and take everything out...and my university has the WORST security ever (I've had speakers stolen from my last car).

All my friends want to know why I don't have my amps and 12's in yet...and I tell them...I NEED to get the alarms sytem working before I do ANYTHING....lol

....supposedly the one that's in has that starter kill you were talking about...because the guy who sold it to me said to be careful about playing with the fritsy alarm because if it's set the car will not start, period...

I say you smear flesh-eating bacteria under your door handles and just always make sure to wear gloves biggrin.gif

simplest way to protect your car is to sell it, then you wont have to worry about it getting stolen.

Instead of wiring up a switch or something, just pull the injector fuses or the PCM fuse or the like. They can find a switch, but I doubt thieves carry extra fuses around much less would think to look there as the problem.

My dads making my bros car theft proof since it was already stolen but he wont even tell me what hes doing to it :-(

Ive never thought about really worrying about security on my celica. I used to leave my laptop and purse in it every night.

I dont think alarms really do that much good. When im at the mall and I hear one going off I just assume its going off because of an exhaust or something (usually cuz of me) so I dont think anyone pays attention to them. I would go for something like you were talking about a starter kill or something.
