I was on the hightway and my car just shut off, like it stalled. so i popped it in fourth and started it again. so I took the next exit and she died but this time i couldnt start it again.
My battery has plenty of juice (12.5) but the car wont turn over. My gas light had just turned on but im only a little below the quarter line, so according to it, I have gas. Im thinking its a fuel problem, pump or whatnot, but i also have a substantial oil leak (puddle on the bed of tow truck that brought me home). My fuel filter needs changing desperately also. What do you guys think? Im going to throw some gas it just to make sure that its not my gauge thats screwing me over. anyone have a diagnostic tips for me? Nate make sure your ignitor is plugged in properly. Also check your wires and look for spark....

DUDE!!! this happened to me. I thought I had a fuel problem then it turned out to be that my Timing belt lost about 8 teeth and the car wouldnt do a damn thing except try to start. I asked everyone at the shop and they seemed to think it was a fuel problem too until they tried to start it and nothing!! I would be willing to bet that its your timing belt dude.
hope that helps |

The engine won't turn over?
Or won't start? Turning over = cranking Catching/starting = well, starting Your gas light shouldn't be on at 1/4 tank... Either the level sender/ low level sender, gas gauge, or wiring is messed up.... If you have an oil leak bad enough to puddle on the back of a tow truck, you have a rather large problem... Need to figure that out as well.. To see if your T-belt is broke, remove the dist cap and see if it spins when you crank the engine. If it does, check for fuel and spark. Whichever one you don't have is the problem. -------------------- ![]() |

The engine cranks but wont start (thx)
I checked for spark and I got nothing, I also checked to make sure everything was tight and connected. I have to head off to work but I can check the t belt tomorrow morning. I just swapped out my alternator (used alt) but even if the alt was bad it would still start right? as long as there was power in the battery? as far as the oil goes, yeah its scaring the **** outa me but I cant seem to locate the source, theres a alot of fluid. It seems to be toward the passengers side of the car but the underplates are make it tough to pinpoint. -------------------- ![]() The question is not how far. Nate I would be willing to bet dude that its your timing belt and water pump. That sounds like the exact same thing that happened to me.

oh! I just remembered something! I think you could be right brandon.
A few days before I was noticing that my water temp gauge was acting funny, like picking up and then dropping quickly a couple times. I was also hearing a pretty good sqeeking from the belt when the car was running, I figured it was cuz of the cold. This is starting to make some sense. how can I be sure? -------------------- ![]() The question is not how far. pull the cover off and look at the belt
we just had a subaru in at work, they were driving and the temp gauge shot up then the car died and wouldn't start again. the timing belt was destroyed... broken, frayed, burned onto the idler pulley which got pulled off... most likely caused damage to the engine. but if your temp gauge was all over the place you probably need a thermostat too -------------------- |

ill get in there today, I have a thermostat I just havent had the chance to put it in yet.
would a blwon water pump cause a jump in the gauge like that? -------------------- ![]() The question is not how far. The question is, do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed? |

it would cause it to overheat. the jump in the gauge is probably just the thermostat being stuck and not reading properly

It happened to me, no spark, the mechanic told me the pick up coil inside the distributor failed. I didn't have time to lose I just replaced the whole distributor and it started back up!

QUOTE(nightryder @ Feb 22, 2007 - 3:47 PM) my car threw a code 1300 ignition circuit malfunction..... well, then you need to check your coil, ignitor, cap, rotor, plugs and wires. first thing i would check would be the coil. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

i was fortunate enough to get my code reader i ordered in the mail on the day i last posted. It threw a code for the ignitor circuit.
I spliced all the wires running into the male end of the plug that plugs into the ignitor coil, then i ran those into the appropriate female ends (basically jumping the whole plug) and she started right up. I went to a junk yard and cut it off of some poor excuse for a wiring harness and spliced it all in. but i still have the issue of this oil leak. Im adding a quart just about once a week. Anyone have tips for locating an oil leak? -------------------- ![]() The question is not how far. The question is, do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed? |

First, top off your oil.
If you can't determine anything definate from that, try adding some UV dye to your oil and get yourself a blacklite. Drive normally for a day, keeping a diligent eye on your oil level and then at the end of the day get underneath the car......any fresh oil thats leaked from anywhere will glow flourescent from the UV light and show you what needs to be fixed. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

the underplastic on the passenger side is saturated, so i know its from that side, and i have a loud sqeak from some belt.
could the leak be around the tbelt leaking oil into the belt? is there a seal in there that could be blown? and don't worry im checking the oil three times a day -------------------- ![]() The question is not how far.
