my horn has been out for 2 months and my inspection is coming up this month so it has to get fixed.

i have check the horn fuse underthe hood and the relay their fine. Took out the airbag this weekend and all the brass contacts hits and eveything was tight nothing out of place.

so now i'm stumped, ever i have a short somewhere or the horn is just head, but i've never used a voltmeter b4 and i dont even know where the horn is actually locatd.

so i'm about to give up and go to the dealership and dont want to do that, so any more ideals

also everything electrical works in my car but the horn, that is hte only problem

your horn should be between your front bumper and radiator right on the reinforcing bar that supports the radiator and headlights next to the hood latch. if the horn fuse under the hood is fine just get a new horn, they're pretty universal. if that doesn't solve the problem then you can go through the headache of finding a short somewhere

I'd make sure your getting current to the horn before you actually go and buy one.

There are actually two of them. Open the hood and look at the radiator from the front. There is one at the bottom and one at the top. Because there is two it is doubtful that both went bad at the same time. The circuit is exceedingly simple to re-wire. You can test the horns by hooking them up to the battery directly BTW.

Really? Now that's a dumb thing for Toyota to cheap out on. I can hear the salesman now "If you get the GT model you get a little more HP and TWO HORNS!" LOL

lol..i love my little bit more hp and 2 horns..lol

If i were u, if you get a set of good quality horns go with PIAA sport horns. They are like $25 or $35 for the set. They sound crazy because they are kinda like the european highend sports cars dual pitch sound.

ST's have 2 horns, i unattached my horns and ran an indipendant power wire through a tractor relay to run my 1959 bus horn biggrin.gif. But as said before take one off and run it directly to a battery and see if it chirps...then you'll know the problem.

I have the same problem maybe telling my story might help us both. I have two horns for the GT. The one on the top does not work. The one on the bottom has its harness cut off for some reason so definitely that won't work. I pulled off the top horn and ran it straight to the battery, no luck. I took off the bottom one and ran it straight to the battery, I almost gave up, but then it finally gave a honk. Assuming now this horn is good, I screw in on to the top now, plugged in the harness...guess what no sound now. So I took it back off and tested it straight to the battery, no luck now. I'm confused cus it just worked a second ago.

-fuse is still good or at least looks good
-is it best if I sand the paint down to get a better ground
-how can there be a short, is it just one of those things cus the wires were never touched
-how can i solve this now
-maybe I need to try another fuse just in case

everything would have been easier to understand if it worked straight to the battery then I plugged it into the harness and doesnt so I plug straight back into the battery it works then I can assume its something with the wiring or relay.

could it be a wire is loose or the contacts are bad but I did scratch/scrape any dirt I could.

Just replace them. "performance" style horns [ laugh.gif ] are too cheap to worry about it. You can re-wire the whole system in minutes anyway.

If I use performance horns though, will it still be able to use the relay? Also, Its kinda ghetto to run it to an alternative switch or button. I like it at the steering wheel but afraid of coming in close to the air bag. What horns do you recommend?

I noticed online there are no complete horns with full wiring kit. They only sell the horns by itself. What can we do then?

A week ago i got to fixing the horn, very very easy to do.

1. Make sure horn fuse is good

2. Disconnect the horn, located in front, between your front bumper and radiator. Remove it and test it on battery, positive wire to + and the metal side of the horn to -. Now comes the funny park, most likely your horn WILL NOT WORK, now take sand paper and sand the metal side of the horn where the screw goes to tighten it to the car body, when it gets shiny test it again, and here it will work. Now, sand the hole of your car body where the screw to tighten the horn goes, than connect it everything and test it, must work.
