Well today was a really ****ty ****ing day... Was working on the LTD getting it running right then my brother went to park it and the ****ing brakes failed so it smashed through the garage door and hit the Firebird, which was in first gear and parking brake up, pushing it over two feet into the wall of the staircase... I give up...

Well that pales, I'm just sitting in a bathroom waiting for a dog to hurl cause it may have eaten part of a corn cob from a field and she's freaking out because they had a dog came in at the shelter that was put down cause of corn cob.

dog puked. no corn cob, just dinner and a lump of burnt wood.
I'd say your brother owes you a car, if that car was so unsafe that the brakes up and completely failed then he had no business driving it any speed fast enough to do that kind of damage. What if it had went through a different wall of the house and killed someone or a neighbor? -------------------- |

Looking at it closer and the passenger fender is gouged too... So it'll need nose cone, hood, and fender... So probably enough to ****ing total it...
What's ****ed up is it was just going off idle speed, he didn't use any throttle. He had it running in drive and stopped with the brakes before letting off the brakes again for it to move forward up the driveway, they just up and failed out of nowhere. He had test driven it up and down the street without any problems after putting the new tires on it not that long ago. Don't know what the **** happened... Right now it's in the empty lot in front of the house since he threw it into reverse as quick as he could and then of course it went out without being able to stop until it just ran out of momentum after turning it off. He tried throwing it into park to stop it going towards the garage, but apparently the parking pawl is trash. Just another reason to hate automatics, with a manual this kind of bull**** doesn't ****ing happen. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

So apparently it's been decided without my input that instead of filing a claim through homeowner's to fix the garage door and have the Firebird fixed at a body shop he will just get a new door out of pocket and he'll just fix the Firebird himself... I guess whatever, either way the ****ing repair will stick out like a sore thumb unless the whole car gets repainted anyway. Between shades of black if that's not perfectly matched and the fact only part of the car will have shiny scratch free paint... Ugh... I'm trying to think of somehow to make lemonade out of lemons with this but I can't... The only way I'll be happy is if the whole car is repainted... That or maybe repair that section and get it to match as best as possible, then just Plasti-Dip or vinyl wrap the car to hide where there's new paint...
Still don't know if I can drive it anyway, clearly this is a sign to just give up and sell it... -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Well turns out one or both of the rear wheel cylinders leaked out all of the brake fluid on the rear brake circuit and then the front circuit is contaminated so badly it's more water than brake fluid... Guess that'll do it every time... Which not sure how as it was topped off after the new tires were put on and it wasn't driven since then. Which of course it didn't do any damage to the land yacht aside from scraped paint and paint transfer off the garage door... Part of me is just like sell the Firebird as is and he cover the loss difference, since shiny new paint on just the nose cone, hood, and fender is more of a red flag to me than the actual damage that's there.

Finally halfway felt like taking pictures...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The skid mark is after rolling the Firebird off the wall, thankfully there were boxes of stuff in between and seems like maybe at worse some scuffs in the paint on the rear. The door is after fixing it as best as possible to try and close the opening off, and then the last picture is how far the LTD rolled back before finally stopping. Which after walking down to it he's lucky he didn't roll much further since there's a downward slope into an embankment and pond right behind... -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Which after calming down and looking closer it's surprising more damage wasn't done to the Firebird, though haven't had him remove the drip tray to look up into the nose cone yet to check for damage to the Styrofoam and cross beam that support the nose cone. Though it looks like it's been pushed down as there's a bigger gap now and you can see where it's pulled away next to the fenders. I suppose with a good plastic filler the fender can be saved easily enough and the nose cone too perhaps. The hood will need the metal smoothed back out and then painted. I don't know, could maybe spot paint the fender and hood but doubt that'd look right. Bleh....

Yes, YouTube being down for some indiscriminate amount of time. Such a tragedy. Then again in the grand scheme of things your brother ramming his land yacht through the garage into your car isn't that high either, but it's higher than YouTube going down for any amount of time.
Anyway... At $20 a can for paint, then $18 a can for automotive plastic primer, $22 a can for adhesion promoter, and automotive 2K clearcoat at $20 a can(and shipping may or may not be included) it'll be a small fortune anyway not taking into consideration the sandpaper and expensive plastic filler needed either. I honestly think it'd be cheaper to buy a paint gun and compressor and then the paints needed in half gallons than to buy it all in aerosol cans, plus the end result will be way better with a gun anyway... Sure you could use Rustoleum or whatever from Wal-Mart since they have automotive paints to save money on primer, adhesion promoter, and clearcoat, but then it's less of a result than even the SEM cans which is still lesser than using a paint gun. Bleh... I'm trying not to be a bitch about it since he feels bad enough as it is, but god damn if he'd just listened to me and went to bring it around the house instead this wouldn't have even ****ing happened. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

So apparently the dealership he works at has some kind of deal with Dent Wizard, so he's going to see how much they'd charge and depending on that it may end up going there. Really at this point it doesn't matter who does it unless it's a shop capable of scanning and mixing paint to match, in which case at least then it wouldn't be all that noticeable and most never would notice unless you told them. Also, from what I can find the shade of black on the car is the same shade of black that GM has used since at least 1959 and is still using to this day. GM never changes anything unless they have to.
![]() Side note, I'm trying to think of the best way to get off all the dust and debris without causing any more damage to the paint than what there already is. I'm thinking perhaps a vacuum cleaner with the crevice tool edge covered in masking tape to get the majority, then maybe a clay bar to get what's leftover. So then can more properly assess what needs to be done. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Well apparently back to him fixing it, I guess Dent Wizard was too much even with their discount. He said he found some Bondo bumper repair, but from looking at it it's more of an epoxy meant for repairing cracks than for filling scratches and gouges even though on their site it says it can be used as a filler. I came across this from SEM that I think will do a better job and will be easier to use given what's needed to be done: https://www.semproducts.com/product/bumper-...product-details

Meh...
So the Genesis has been needing tires, so he bought some Federal 595RPM off Amazon and will see how they do. Considering he can't rotate his tires and the Federal were about half as much as a Cooper, BFGoodrich, or Firestone even figured they were worth a chance given all the good things said about the Federal 595 series. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Sorry about the car bud. You should sell it and use the proceeds to buy mine, but I'd make you sign a contract that you can't sell this one for another V8 months later.

Thanks. Ha... The only other V8 cars I'd want I can't afford anyway. If I sold it not sure I'd buy another car, have more important things to spend money on these days than a car that sits around and collects dust. Then again, provided I had a car I could actually drive I'd probably drive it all the time like I used to. Hmm... probably a NB2 Miata, then just put my hair into twintails and can drive with the top down provided it's not precipitating. Either that or YOLO it and get a RX-8, because rotary sounds. Really anything else I do like needs so much done to it to be remotely happy, or the clutch is too heavy... Such is life.

Though I'd be lying if I said I don't fantasize about getting a MR-S and 2ZZ-GE and 6-speed swapping it. Then again I also fantasize about 2GR swapping a SW MR2, V8 and 20B swapping a FC S5 RX-7, K20 or AJ V6 swapping a Miata, and so on and so forth and those are just the somewhat realistic ones.
So, from what was found via a paint supply store the Dupli-Color Perfect Match Universal Black is supposed to be a match for the WA8555 black used on GM cars. So he bought a can from the parts store first just to make sure before ordering 4-5 and after putting it onto spots needing sanded anyway it sorta kinda matches. Maybe after drying it'll match a bit better, well that and not having clear on it makes a difference. Since in some spots it seems more grey than the original paint, but in other spots the original paint looks more grey. Meh, not sure if the SEM or other $20 mixed cans would match any better. He's thinking about taking the driver side headlight door off and painting it with it, since it had paint etching anyway from the factory decal, to get a better idea. Meh... Still don't even know if I can drive the damn thing, and of course now it's trapped inside until the garage door gets replaced. And oh yeah, upon closer inspection there's a tab from the nose cone to the fender that's broken on the driver side so that explains it sagging more then. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Ha haaaaa I'm still sick. Had a 101.3 fever last night and was sweating like CRAZY when I fell asleep, I have a cough and keep getting fevers with sweating, chills, fatigue, and migraines. So I have an appointment Friday morning, I'm betting on either mild pneumonia or a bad sinus infection.

Sorry if that came off wrong, but seriously that's how you end up being one of those people that die from the flu. Don't be one of those people. I understand not wanting to go to the doctor and potentially waste money on a copay just for them to tell you it's a cold and to deal with it, but after a week you really need to go if no signs of getting better. Same deal with my mom, eventually ended up going to the doctor and had to be given antibiotics to finally kill off her infection after she'd done everything possible to get rid of it that was available OTC. Hopefully it's something not too serious and they can have you feeling better by the start of next week.
