Diving into the seat work today, forgot to bring home my dikes so I'm running out to Mendards to grab a decent pair for home.
Having the passenger seat out of the car and sitting in it, it's WAY more supportive than the driver side seat. My foam has seen better days, the seat back foam is discontinued but the local dealer was able to find the last foam seat bottom in the USA and tried ordering it, they'll let me know on Tuesday if it came in or not but they doubt that it will. I'll hit up a local shop to see if they can contour some foam shapes to fill the seat back out. I read about steaming the foam to fluff it back up but I doubt that lasts very long so I'm not going to bother with it. I think adding some foam on top of what's there will do the trick or just building a new bottom or part of the bottom. The outer bolster needs to be harder on the bottom and the back needs a little more on the sides to hold me tighter in the seat to be more comfortable. Looking forward to getting this all done and having more comfortable seats again, the driver side hurts my lower back some on longer drives so I hope a little extra lumbar foam helps with that. -------------------- |

Toyota lists different part numbers side to side so I suspect there's some difference in the seat shape between left and right. I might learn how to sculpt seat foam from all of this, that could be fun!

Oh well. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

The seat back foams look the same since the seat backs look the same but I suspect there's some subtle shape difference that you can't see in the car, maybe a little bias inward or something or different curve or one side bolster may be taller than the other even. Whatever the case, I'm getting or fixing the driver seat bottom for sure and fixing the driver seat back. I need more support and holding, I just need to make sure I stay slim so I don't get too wide for the seat! Judging the rest of both sides of my family I think I should do OK as long as I stay reasonably active, we're all fairly thin by modern standards. -------------------- |

Clean ya cup holder, daz nazty.
![]() So you google how to fix an engine, endless results for every engine. Google how to fix a car seat...nothing. Well hardly anything. I got the passenger back skinned down finally after much procrastination and anxiety, it was substantially easier than anticipated! I looked at how the seat is built and I think my lumbar issue lies in the 2 lower springs on the seat back. They're pretty tough spring steel but not infallible and can be taken out of the seat frame pretty easily. The lowest on the seat is almost flat slightly convex. I bent it to be almost flat slightly concave. Prior to the bend it did not contact the foam with the seat skin off, after the bend it does push on the foam with the seat skin off. Sitting on the seat with the skin off (first off bare urethane foam feels like chewing cotton balls to me) the lumbar area is pushed out just slightly and feels more comfortable to me already. With the skin and it's thin foam I'm sure it'll be fine. However this is the passenger seat, I don't sit in that one very often. I'm hoping to find a similar or worse issue on the driver seat back and be able to do the same thing to correct the lumbar. For the side bolsters I was suggested by my friend to add some padding not hard foam. And thinking about it more that makes more sense maybe for comfort and would probably hold me better too. I think what I'll do is bend the spring if needed, skin it as it is, and see how it feels. It's easy to pull off to add a little padding later if I desire it. -------------------- |

Yeah, but not building off that crap 1zz BS motor. Gotta go at least turbo 2ZZ or a Large displacement, long stroke V6 with a Twin screw SC for glorious banshee noises. -Lorelei "Twin Screwed" Moira This post has been edited by Box: Jul 27, 2020 - 11:14 PM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Here I got it; I'll get a NB1 Miata to K24 swap, and you can get a MR2 Spyder to K24 swap.
