These "spammers" are actually spam bots. A spam bot registers and posts automatically, this is why almost everything now is protected with CAPTCHA. As far is I recall, no CAPTCHA verification was necessary for registration on 6gc.net and would probably solve these problems.

Last time I checked he lives in the Belltown area of Seattle - about 40 minutes from me.

Seriously, if you didn't look for these points of contact, you should not be allowed to run a forum. Mods, I will call and email Christian and let him know that you want to take control of the site and update it with spam control as we on Pedalroom are running into the same thing.

Timmyface Not a good move, what you should have done was created 1 thread in their website discussion section outlining the issue and wanting contact with Coomer, but instead you've created another mess for a mod/admin to clean up.

I could fix the spam problem if Coomer didn't want 10k for the damn site.

Going through his old posts, most of the site is written in PHP but some of the updates are in Rails, so we definitely need somebody that knows those two types of code.

There are a few types/forms of spambots we have, which post differently, depending where they are from.


1. posts 3-4 posts or new topics
2. posts 6-10 new topics
3. posts 200+ posts in any thread

Just add further authentication while signing in, or have new users be approved.

Purge all the obvious bots.

If you looked at his Linkedin site or his personal website..... he doesn't even list 6gc as one of his "accomplishments" or previous experience.....

PHP forums aren't rocket science. I could also easiely transfer alot of the items from this site.

If I get enough interest, and it doesn't feel like we're stabbing anyone...I'll do it. I'm tired of the spam, and lack of care for the site.

This will be a real domain.

unless you feel like paying a company $ to rank a new site to get it to the top of the list on a Google search. There will be a decrease in new membership.


Its a minor inconvenience, these spammers. More for the Mods than for us. I dont see why we cant just wait an hour for someone to clean it up, and then everything is back to normal.
