after reading azian's post a few years ago I've wanted to install heated seats. I know others have done it but I never liked the aftermarket switch they came with and wanted to do things just a little different than everyone else had done and I wanted mine to be more OEM. I kept putting it off and finally my incredible woman was nice enough to get me a set of the OEM switches as an early Christmas present so I bought the seat heaters and decided to stop talking about it and do it.

first start with these

^^ same as the overseas celica switches and available in the US (from a Sienna)

get the connectors - important ! they are left and right specific !

panel from a vert

another pic (from the back)

and then the fun stuff. I got my hands on a Sienna EWD and my multimeter here's what the pins do

1 = illumination +
2 = HI setting
3 = LO setting
4 = POWER
5 = illumination -
6 = GROUND

I happen to have a few old interior harnesses to de-pin smile.gif this is why I keep so much junk

then I pinned the new connectors

put together shot

and now add these

^^ seat heaters from ebay

and a shot of the ebay seat heater switch and what do the wires do ? biggrin.gif break out the multimeter and BAM, here's what they do.

RED = power
BLACK = ground
WHITE = Hi setting
GREEN = Lo setting

and some part #s

switches

connectors

panel

I cut off the ebay heater switches, connected the wires to the OEM switches, wired the illumination wires to the lighter ring, and put the heaters in the seats. I re-checked everything and plugged everything in and BAM, heated seats with OEM switches.

quick phone pic of the switches (I put my alarm LED in the blank spot)

they work perfect.
The switches illuminate with the lights and HI and LO light up when they're pressed. The seats heat up well and this is gonna make me happy on those cold mornings.

I'll take and post up more pics tonight.

VERY nice write up man!!! I'm planning on these when we recover the seats, and this is just a beautifully seamless installation. Nicely done.

Nice! I've got a question about heated seats. I've got cloth seats in my car, (I know some of you are already like uh oh...) and I would love to swap them out for leather but I don't have the money for that. I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to put seat heaters in a cloth seat but one of my friend's parents has them from the factory in a Saturn Vue. I know, Saturn... Gay. But they put seat heaters in cloth seats. So is that even doable? I'd like to have heated seats but I'm not brave enough without confirmation from somebody OTHER than Saturn.

My girlfriend has a Jetta with heated cloth seats - I absolutely don't think you need to have leather to install these. They shouldn't ever get hot enough to be a hazard. I'll keep you updated on that one though, as I also plan to do this same mod! But I was just gonna hit a junk yard to find some switches that didn't look quite so "Made in China" as the eBay switches do. tongue.gif

X2^^^^

Ive always thought about that, it would be pretty sweet to put the switch there, but then what about the passenger one? It would be kinda odd to just have the passenger one all by itsself

thank you sir.

will they fit in the blanks on either side of the wheel under the dash ?
yes and no

the will fit in the blank spot but the switches are deep, you would have to remove (or cut a some holes in) the brace behind the lower dash. If any of you have taken off the lower dash cover then you should know what piece I'm talking about.

for pics of the actual install, none really. I've taken seats apart before so I'm very familiar with them. It took me a few hours to do everything start to finish. FYI the 96+ seats are much easier to take apart than the 94-95 seats (I'm lucky to have 96 seats in my car wink.gif). I did the pass side first then the driver's. I put the relays and wiring under the armrest where the SRS ECU is and decided to put the heat pad wires from the relay out from under the armrest and down under the rails and gave enough slack to move the seats back and forth without problems. I'll take a few under seat pics tomorrow.

for the CC I used 3 LEDs in place of the stock bulbs.

and a few more pics of how the wires are ran and now blue LEDs in the switches

for driver's side (with the seat belt buckle pushed forward)

for pass side (with the seat belt buckle pushed forward)

the loom runs under the rails and to the plugs under the seats (this is the driver's side and the seat was slid all the way up when I took the pic)

and they're now blue

I asked my local Toyota dealer how much they want for the switches and the guy told me $116.15 each.... 0_o. He also said they only came out of a Rav4, but 1sttoyotaparts.com says they are for a Sienna.

Even converting from US to Cdn, then add shipping, it would still be cheaper to order them out of the states.

It is a motor heater button from an avensis tongue.gif. There was a spare hole and my friend had one laying around smile.gif

Well I had a look at my RHD switch panel and has the notch cutouts to allow L/R switches to go in the right location. Have emailed my local dealers to get some prices biggrin.gif

Does anyone have part numbers for the security lights? I noticed some have just a light and others look like they have some sort of sensor below the light. I've found a couple on eBay that are close but not exactly right to match the seat switches.

Does the seat heater/alarm switch panel for RHD have the same PN??

Or does the screw holes in it line up the same as the middle storage hole in my RHD shifter trim?

But I was just gonna hit a junk yard to find some switches that didn't look quite so "Made in China" as the eBay switches do. tongue.gif

Sweet! Now that I have had someone else say it, I might spring for them this Christmas! I'll let you guys know smile.gif

Subaru does it as well.. My 08 WRX, and 05 Legacy GTs have heated cloth... Also my dad's STi has heated alcantra {spelling?}.
