ok i found this very strange.

whenever i have the trunk opened, the door opened signal in the dash wont come on. why?

would it be possible for me to wire up the light in the trunk to the door opened signal in the dash?

its because thats a bigggg asssssssss fllllawwwwwwwww to my celi. people can juss open the trunk and the alarm wont go off.

whenever i have the trunk opened in the rav4, the light goes on in that car, but not in the celi

does this happen to the hatchback people too?

I have hatchback and it works... so IMHO there are two possibilities:

1. convertible celicas do not have sensor there
2. you have it but sensor not working (broken, get jammed, etc.)

im guessing i dont have the sensor. would it be possible to wire the trunk light so that whenever it turns on, the light in the dash can turn on so that the alarm would set off if it was opened?

My previous car 94 Sentra doesn't have a sensor to let people know if the trunk is opened....

Ok, that doesn't help.. it's not even a Celica... hahah

generally the hatch is considered a 3rd door...trunks are not. same on an suv or a wagon...its considered a 3rd door cause theres a window. i have a hatch so maybe the coupes/vert celicas still consider it a door but i wouldnt know for sure

coupes and convertibles dont have a sensor, so we're screwed, do what i did, take off the shocks on the lid and keep a lucky stick in there, only draw back is convenience, but oh well...

It shouldn't be too hard to wire up yourself. Place a contact on the trunk, and another in the car. Send the two wires to whereever one of the door sensors is. You should be able to wire it into one of the two door sensors, so that one of the two door wouldn't register closed unless the trunk was too.

The switch is officially called the "drivers side [or pass.] door courtesy switch" It shouldn't be too hard to wire.

If you want wiring diagrams, there are some in the pdf celica toyota repair manual. If you don't have that drop me a email, and I can attach the pdf's for you. I'll be out of town from tomorrow to july 9, so if you need those let me know asap.

also, maybe move this question to "interior/ electrical systems"?

God Bless!
