a while back, i contaced a guy that sells motor mount inserts on mr2oc, about making some for our 6th gens. i figured it would be a great upgrade for anyone who has a gt or a swap. i got the first set of inserts a few weeks ago and instaled them this past weekend. they fit great and a nice upgrade over the stock mounts. you notice a lot more throttle response, smoother clutch engagement, as well as shifting, and you feel more connected with the engine. it should also greatly reduce wheel hop and help with traction becuase the motor wont rock back and forth as much as it does with the stock mounts. the other cool thing is that they insert over your existing mounts, so if for some reason you ever want to take them out, you can.

here is a pic of them installed on my car.

finally... here is a pic of the rear motor mount that i filled myself about 1yr ago. it worked well at first, but as you can see it didnt last long

last but not least, there is a really awesome Video review that an mr2 ower made about the mounts. i have to say that i pretty much agree with everything he said about them in the video. the install is a little bit different on our car then the mr2, but anyone with some basic tools can do the job. took me about 1-2hrs to do the whole thing.

direct link to the video:

link to the website that did the review:
http://www.lovehorsepower.com/MR2_Docs/MotorMounts.htm

link to the site/person that made these and will be selling them. all sales questions should be emailed to kirk:

i dont think so. but if you have a pic of some ST mounts, post them and we can compare to make sure.

these will fit any car with a GT transmission. kirk also makes mounts for the mr2, so if anyone has a swap with an mr2 tranny, im sure he can mix and match a motor mount set for you that will work (gt front, mr2 rear inserts).

i belive its 50bucks shipped.... but dont quote me on that. thats just what kirk was selling the mr2 mounts for. i know these were harder to make so i dont know if there will be any price different on those. ill try to ask him for sure next time i talk to him. but i would expect them to be in the same price range.

Hey Folks,

The price for the set is the same as the MR2 and Alltrac inserts, $50 shipped in the US.
All info can be found on my urethane motor mount insert webpage:

kirkosaurus.com

From the looks of those ST mounts the GT inserts should fit.

What kind of condition do our stock ones need to be in? Mine are all still there just that the rubber isn't all one piece anymore.

Just a heads up, since the testing, fitting and varification was done just this week (thanks lagos!) it will probably be a few days until I get the first batch of these. That means they may not ship until early next week.

thanks,

hi,

This is in the FAQ on the urethane motor mount insert webpage.
Even if the rubber is completely torn out the inserts will hold everything in place.

will you be making full inserts (ones where you cut/torch the oem out) and have a full polyurethane insert (like the prothanes for the SR20)

i doubt he will because of how well these work already. these things are very beefy just the way they are. the engine stays very soild and you can definetly feel the mounts do their job. the whole car just feels so much more responsive then ever before. its an awesome upgrade, especially for a swap/trubo owner.

I'll be ordering these in short order. I was a bit skeptical while watching the video seeing as how they're inserts, but after seeing them fully installed I like the idea.

that is a left side ST M/T mount.

just some info about 6 gen mounts...

the ST and GT rear mount is the same, No difference, same part # thumbsup.gif
the ST and GT front mount are 99% the same...the only difference is the GT has a base under it (where it bolts to the crossmember) and the ST does not. Kinda difficult to explain but the inners (rubber bushings and top of the mounts) are the exact same thumbsup.gif
the side mounts are very different from ST to GT thumbsdown.gif stronger side mounts aren't really needed anyway smile.gif

nice job Art

edit : new development - these inserts will fit manual Celicas perfectly (ST and GT). For any A/T Celica, the rear mount rubber inner is different and will not fit (the front is fine).

you guys, i filled my mounts with the poly-urethane that is commonly used to 'glue' windshields onto the car..... it works and has perfectly for well over 3 years now.
it is maybe a little ghetto doing it that way, but it works.
those red inserts do look pretty damned cool!

just a tip when you guys go to install these. the factory inserts havea paper thin rubber that covers part of the inside of the mount. you will have to cut this area out with a knife (on your oem mounts) for the inserts to mate up correctly. most of the time, when you have old mounts, this thin layer wears away on its own, but if your still happens to somehow have it, just cut it out.

if anyone is confused.... youll know what im talking about when you go to install these.

1. jack up the car, and place it onto 2 good jack stands.
2. grap a 10m socket start to unbolt the engine plastics from the crossmember. you dont have to completely take everything out, but just enough to swing out of the way so that you can work on the mounts
3. have a look around. youll notice that the front and rear mounts rest on the crossmember (long under support bar that goes from the front to back, under the motor).
4. get under the car and start on the rear mount 1st. remove the 17m bolt that goes through the center of the motor mount.
5. remove the 2 bolts and 1 nut (14m) that connect the rear motor mount to the crossmember. youll have to remove a small, black, plastic cover to access these bolts.
6. the rear mount should now be loose, but you will not be able to totall take out out... yet...
7. grab your jack and place a piece of wood on it (wood IS important). place the jack under the oil pan of the motor and jack it up a little bit. this is just for safety, to secure the motor as you work under it.
8. now it time to unbolt the front mount. remove the 17m bolt goes through the motor mount. you will need to do this with 2 wrenches because it connected with a nut and bolt, and will just spin on your if you dont use go at it from both sides.
9. remove the 2 14m bolts that bolt the motor mount to the crossmember. you will have to remove the little plastic cover to access these.
10. take a look at the crossmember again. youll notice it bolts to the front of the car frame with 2 12m bolts. unbolt them and the cross member will be totally loose
11. crawl under the car again. you will have to wiggle and move the rear mount in just the right angle to get the cross member to come out. its a bit of a pain and takes a bit of time, but it will come out.
12. now your motor mounts will be totally out. take your new inserts and "slap them in place" (watch the mr2 vid if u dont know what i mean).
13. now start to put everything back just like you got it out. start off by sliding the crossmember in with the rear motor mount and make sure it all lines up . like before, this will be a bit of a pain, but not to bad. you just have to find the right angle. ... then put everything back togher and your all done.

Tips:
1. torque the motor mounts at 54lb to the crossmember on the 14m bolts, and 65lb on the 17m bolts
2. if you have trouble putting the 17m bolt through the rear motor mount, chances are its because your motor shifted a little. take your jack and place it under the tranny. start to slowly jack it up and look through your wheel well (side of the car) and watch that bolt hole as it lines up better and better as you jack the tranny up.

With those you have to modify your mount by removing the rubber, so the process is irreversible. With the inserts you could remove them if you decided you didn't want them anymore and go back to stock mounts. Plus I don't think Speed Source makes them for the 6th gen Celica.

My friend works for an industrial urethane product company. They mostly make different types of urethane wheels and rollers, and also the urethane motor mount inserts.

All info on the inserts is on my urethane insert webpage (link in the first post and also below my signature in my posts).

All insert orders are up to date and they have shipped. Sorry for the delay. I'm not getting them from my supplier as promptly as I would've liked to.

are you serious? I was actually considering possibly applying for a job as a guitar-tech for gibson within the next couple of years. what exactly do you do there? do you like it? and if you don't mind me asking, what's the pay like?

anyway, my axes include a Gibson SG special faded, 2 ibanez GRX40's, and a no-name nylon-string acoustic. the ibanez's are cheap, but I like the way they feel, so I bought the second with the intention of completely tearing it down and rebuilding it. right now it's sitting in my garage with the paint 3/4 of the way sanded off, I just never found time to finish it, maybe I'll try to go finish that up tonight, lol. when it's done, it's gonna be a shred monster with extremely high output dimarzio pickups and sperzel tuners wink.gif anyway, I play these through either a line 6 spider II, or my all-tube peavey XXX combo.

Quality supervisor for the Epiphone division. Pay is above average, but of course depends on what you do in the company and what skills you have. I have several Epiphone electrics (with all Gibson electronics) and acoustics, and few Kramers (Also owned by Gibson) but my favs are my 3 Ibanez RG550's. One is stripped down now and is being sent to California for the "monkey grip" JEM routing and candy blue paint. smile.gif

ahh, so if I ever pick up a less-than-stellar quality epiphone, I know it's your fault. biggrin.gif lol jk

so, what's the deal with the three RG550's? are you running different pickups in all them or anything, or just wanted to get three different colors, or what? tongue.gif

They all have differnt pickup configurations. One has a rosewood fingerboard and the other two maple. One of the maples has a custom headstock where I chopped it and made it shorter with did 4 tuners on one side and 2 on the other. but yeah, they are all different colors as well.

I never really realized the A/T and the M/T inners were different until recently (tranny swap for Hurley97)

I *may* have a spare M/T rear mount, I will check soon...

i wonder why they are different. i mean, it looks like they bolt in the same spot, so why would toyota change the shape of the rubber?

I have no clue why they would do that Art, maybe less stress on them with an auto ????

I changed out Steff's rear mount to a filled one last week and something about her old mount looked funny to me (it was her old A/T mount I realized 10 minutes ago), it's in my trunk right now and it looks exactly like 95celGT's. I will edit my first post to reflect this development.

You put the rear insert in the front. Switch them out. The other insert should go in that mount and the piece you have in your hand should go in the front.

I can't get the 17mm bolt out of my front motor mount.... this is such a bitch, everything under my car is so rusty, I've broken most of the 10mm bolts holding the plastic on and one of the 12mm bolts holding the cross member on. I'm so pissed off right now. Now I'm giving up and trying to put everything back together, and i can't get my ****ing rear motor mount in place!!! ARRRGH!!

Did you soak everything down with P'Blaster (or whatever your favorite penetrating oil is) first? Also heat is your friend. Use a torch on the bolt.

I had my mount put in.. and best way to put it is that the car feels well connected or tight. A minor but noticeable vibration at idle and thats all.

it isn't strange, it is an AUTO tranny rear mount. If you want I can take side by side pics of the 2, I have them here in front of me. The inner rubbers are different.

I should have my inserts today. I'll be testing how to fit the AT rear mount this week at the shop. I figure just chop the old rubber to fit the insert and that way keep the most new stuff as possible.

I might get around to installing mine tomorrow... yes, I know I've had them well over a month now... my friend (whom I'd have to borrow the jack and jackstands from) seems really reluctant to help me with this. he's scared the engine will fall out or something, and thinks that jacking up the oil pan is a bad idea... so I'm going to take these to my automotive class tomorrow and maybe my teacher will help me install them (with a proper vehicle lift and everything! lol)

now, I'm just guessing here, correct me if I'm wrong, but the wider inserts are for the rear, and the skinnier inserts are for the front mounts, right?

ok... who said this was supposed to be easy??? I just finished spending over 8 hours trying to get these in... and they STILL are not in! the hard part was getting the rear mount out. eventually I got it out (after completely removing the crossmember) slapped the inserts in (I agree that this part was easy tongue.gif ) and tried putting it back in... no luck yet. the front mount was pretty easy to do though.

tomorrows goal: get the rear mount in, get the crossmember in, get it all back together and drivable... all in under 5 hours before I have to go to work. but my dad agreed to help me tomorrow. so I'm hoping we can get it done... jeez, these better be worth it tongue.gif

13. now start to put everything back just like you got it out. start off by sliding the crossmember in with the rear motor mount and make sure it all lines up . like before, this will be a bit of a pain, but not to bad. you just have to find the right angle. ... then put everything back togher and your all done.

wtf! how on earth does this go back together! I cannot get the rear mount and crossmember back into place! the screws sticking out of the bottom of the rear mount are too long. the mount is like 6 inches top to bottom including the screws and there is only like 4 inches of space... even less once you put the crossmember in place! I can't see any way of getting the mount back in short of taking out like the entire transmission... can any one help me?

try jacking up the tranny a little bit. It will give you a bit more room to pop the mount back into it's place. I know it sucks a little to get this mount back in...but be strong and put that mutha in it's place.

ok... after 3 days and about 13 hours of work, I still don't have this simple 1-2 hour job done! frown.gif I absolutely cannot figure out how the rear mount and crossmember go back in! I've tried:

putting the crossmember in and trying to wedge the mount on top
putting the mount in and trying to wedge the crossmember in underneath
putting the mount onto the crossmember and try to put them in together from the front, back, and sides
jacking the tranny a lot, and jacking the tranny very little

can anyone tell me EXACTLY what they did to get this in? if I can't get this in within the next couple of days, I may have to tow the car to a mechanic and get severly overcharged for it. HELP!!!
