Well this is the second greatest mod i have done to my car...
my first progress thread is here My progress Thread i wanted to do this swap last year but problems came and i had just not enough money to afford a 3sgte. but thanks to Jim i got a WRC 3sgte... by the way thanks a lot jim for everything! the engine arrived a month ago, but i havent had much time to work on it, and since i dont have an engine stand it is harder to work on it.. i might only update the thread once or twice a week, but slowly i will get there. To start, i will do the swap myself with help of some friends, i will not let a mechanic do the job since i dont think it is really hard to do a swap. It will be frustrating at some points but not impossible. Also i want to know what will be under the hood and learn from mistakes. I am not an expert, in fact i do not have much mechanical experience but i know i can do it. so forgive me because i might ask stupid things now and then but i am here to learn. and with the help of this community i know we can pull it off. So please guys help me with advices or questions i might have. the set up= WRC 3sgte with LSD E-153 ok here are 2 pics of the engine the day it arrived, i should of taken more but forgot to, ![]() ![]() ok its late and need to sleep, will update the thread tomorrow. Congratulations on the WRC 3S Joe!
It's encouraging to watch members do this themselves. I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to see the finished project. -------------------- Has no more Celicas

a whole front clip would have been a much better buy....but you've got the heart of the beast now.

^^^ There is no need, he bought the engine set from me and all my engine sets come with everything needed needed to install into your Celica. I even include mounts for the ST guys.

(wiring harness, ecu, etc) the engine set came from jim, it does have everything needed, at first i wanted a clip but since jim had it with everything needed i went for it. i only have to buy the axels from the all trac,, some gaskets, i already have everything needed for the auto to manual swap,, and i would probably buy a clutch, that pretty much is all needed. ^^^ There is no need, he bought the engine set from me and all my engine sets come with everything needed needed to install into your Celica. ok guys small update,
here is how the engine sits as of right now, i removed throttle body, intercooler, valve cover, and lots of misc pieces... ![]() the intercooler is in perfect condition, only the toyota sticker is a little scratched but i will get a new one. ![]() and i sourced thanks to malpaso a brand new walbro fuel pump ![]() next i will paint some of the engine parts like the valve cover, and the heat shield. anyone has a good idea of what would be best to clean those parts without leaving any grease on them before painting them? like sanding it down or pressure wash... i found this and i will try it to see how it goes Lagos valve cover -------------------- ![]() |

Damn, everyones swapping! Did you get a clip? nope i didnt got a clip, rpm garage was selling a really complete clip but it was not a n wrc and to tell the truth that clip would of cost me an arm an leg to get it here. i decided to go with jim, he sold me the engine set with EVERYTHING needed. i only needed to source some obvious stuff like axels and gaskets that was pretty much all. -------------------- ![]() |

Glad to know you are in the beginning stages. I will be in that position here soon. (I'm in the process of buying a set from Jim as well)
I will be referring to this thread many times throughout my build. As for cleaning. I've always liked the GUNK foam engine cleaner for the first off clean. Afterwards I used brake parts cleaner and scotch pads. I've never painted on that so you may want to wait for the guys who have painted.. Goodluck with the swap! ![]() Edit: Did you buy the fuel pump from Malpaso? This post has been edited by Malek: Jul 13, 2010 - 4:19 PM -------------------- |

that walboro is a 341, im not sure it will work in the 6th gen, i know in Eryns car i put a 342 in it. you see how the inlet and outlet are on opposite sides of the pump. you want them to be on the same side. thats why you should get a 342

The GSS-342 fuel pump and 400-765 install kit are the correct Walbro part numbers for our cars that are swapped or turboed. I bought the GSS-341 since that's what I found to be recommended during a search here, but it's inlet and outlet are reversed compared to our stock pump... ![]() Our stock pump looks almost identical to the pump on the left. The Walbro pumps in that picture are identical except that the one on the right has the inlets and outlets offset for use in the MR2 Turbo and Supra TT. That is the only difference between the 341 and 342, they are both 255lph Hi Pressure pumps. I got the GSS-341 to work but it doesn't sit in the pump bracket correctly. A zip tie was added for peace of mind. Also, on the stock fuel pump plug, the blue wire is the positive 12v source. It is to be spliced into the red wire on the Walbro plug. Obviously, the two remaining black wires will be spliced together. If anyone has any advice on how to install the filter retaining clip let me know. I finaly got it to go on but it sure seemed like it was more trouble than it should have been. that walboro is a 341, im not sure it will work in the 6th gen, i know in Eryns car i put a 342 in it. you see how the inlet and outlet are on opposite sides of the pump. you want them to be on the same side. thats why you should get a 342 i did a little of research and it does, it only needs a zip tie. or something to hold it in place -------------------- ![]() |

![]() ![]() that set looks just like mine ![]() you will most likely have to do more wiring then people with a clip(Manny's swap for ex.) as intercooler relay/fuse box will be missing. Maybe you lucked out tho and its there. its right next to intake. Looks like this: ![]() if not, Batman provided me with this when I was doing my swap and it helped out alot: ![]() ![]() good luck again dude! hope it all works out -------------------- THIS IS WHERE WE HOLD THEM!

![]() what im worried about is the stock hanger is set up for the sock to sit in this position. with a 341 it will be all wrong. you would have to cut off the base of the hanger and then put a clamp around it to hold it. why dont you just sell that 341 and buy the right pump? -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Check out manny's swap.. its awesome dude.. everything you need to know besides the fuse box you don't have. Just study those diagrams and you should be solid dude. -------------------- THIS IS WHERE WE HOLD THEM!

Just as a reference, about how much space does the engine and all of it's components take up? 4x4 ft? You just have a hoist and not a stand right?
Thanks -------------------- |

Ok i havent had much time but with patience i have accomplished this
Painted some engine parts, still need to paint more but they had no more paint at the autozone near me ![]() Ok i used the break parts cleaner since it kind of destroys the oil that was covering the parts, be careful thought not to apply it on plastic parts such as gaskets. Some Metallic Silver Blue paint and some clear to give it a shine finish, both of them High Tem Resistant ![]() Valve cover done, it needs another layer of clear ![]() Heat shield, fixed some dents it had and polished it and it came out awesome. ![]() ![]() some parts still on the way, if you guys want me to do a How-to on the paint, this is the time since on Thursday i will be painting the rest of the stuff enjoy -------------------- ![]() |
