So I've loved the OLD Toyota "TEQ" logo since I first seen it but wasn't sure if it would fit with the celica.
When I seen a sticker verion of it on Jon's (808celica) car I liked it even more.
But couldn't find any available for purchase and didn't want a sticker, though I considered it.
Finally decided to create one, but kept putting it of, but seeing as I've had free time recently I'm going to try to make one.

Found some triangular dowels, cut the to make the lettering and found a perfect sized ring.

Hopefully Monday-Wednesday I will be attempting to vacuum form and cast a resin/plastic mold of it..
I'm pretty excited to see how it comes together. And I'll post the results.

Thanks for reading thumbsup.gif
Let me know what you think

It seems you might have something going here....workmanship is outstanding. Its been a long time since ive vac molded, but seems the "details" might get lost. Pull it off though and put me down for one.

Wow! Thanks for the positive feedback thumbsup.gif

Just got my thermo-form sheets which is mainly for another upcoming project wink.gif
Thought it'd work but the sheets are a little too thick for this application. I might head out this and find some molding clay, as it should hold the details much better.

And of course I'll share if it works out good enough biggrin.gif

so how is it coming?

Sorry for lack of updates!

I've been caught up with my headlight project that this got put aside..
Last Wednesday I tried making a mold with some liquid mold builder which sets to make a soft rubber form but had a mishap and the mold pretty much fell apart frown.gif so next Monday ill try something else and hopefully get a good mold.

LOL :sigh: not much, I re-did the letters a couple weeks ago as a couple of em broke when some stuff got shuffled around. Found some plastic rods online that might work nice but cant find the right size. I'm going to try to get moving on this project, which I did forget about abit.

here's the cured (reusable) casting putty:

poured in the casting resin and popped this out:

it's not done though, the mold held VERY GOOD detail, so well that the cast has wood grain in it rolleyes.gif
so once the resin fully hardens i can sand it smooth and fix any imperfections and cast it once more for a (hopefully) final product

will also add some small connectors between the letters so that it can be applied in one piece instead of individually.

This is where I am at now:

The plan as of now is touch up the lines and details. Order some (super thin) thermoform sheets and vacuum form the emblems. This way I can lose some of the super-fine detail that the putty/clay picks up. As well as make it easier to "mass produce" and make more than one at a time; because so far each cast I do takes about 30 minutes minus touch up time.

They are a little bigger than stock
You can just fit these over top the old stock emblems

the oval shape of the rear emblem is what makes it visually fit better.

without the brake light and the trunk line so close to it, it wouldnt seem so large. Hence why it looks fine in the front

Yeah thats been a concern of mine. Sadly the plastic ones cant be made smaller.
However since the aluminum ones are drawn with help of a computer they can be scaled down smile.gif

thought for rear emblem:
Where to place the mounting pins for the holes. Im not sure the diameter of the holes or the width of the outer ring, but if this is scaled down, the outer ring may be able to line up with the holes and you could have the pins come from behind the outer ring, making for a cleaner mounting look ( i know the way you have it mounted in the pics is just to see how it would generally look, and isnt a permanent mounting method)

WOOOOOT! Got the emblems in from my friends shop!!

Told the machine shop to scale it down to 2.75" instead of 3.25"

AND ITS PERFECT!

Rear: The Ring will cover the mounting holes and leave it at the perfect spot between the center brake light and edge of trunk

Front: The bottom of the ring and the cross of the "T" cover the front holes perfectly

I can't wait to see what the aluminum ones look like smaller. I will pick up one for my rear if you can figure out a way to make it fit the concave! wink.gif

sadly couldn't adjust for the concavity kindasad.gif

Monday I'll try to get a thread going in the 'For sale' section.
I have 28 pieces in hand that will be for sale smile.gif

Was thinking 12 shipped for 1; or 20 shipped for 2 for anywhere in the us..

I've never shipped to another country, what's the best way to ship to aus?

I'm not too sure as I haven't sent anything from the US I Aus either! Haha. Best bet is to just look on USPS sites etc and put in the weight and see how much it is, and average time it takes.

Some of the other guys might have a better way though.

Alright USPS says it'll be about $18 to ship to NSW. or $10 for Parcel post. (padded envelope)
Just an estimate as I have not weighed them yet

How'd you send me my splitters then? 0.o lol

When I sent him signal lights, it was like double cost of normal US shipping. Wasn't terrible.

Never used US shipping in my life tongue.gif I used Australia Post to ship to you.

Anyway, was that $18 for shipping alone, or including the price of the emblem? haha

Shipping alone smile.gif
But that's just the online quote for a large padded envelope..
should be relatively cheap, the emblems weight 1 oz. total (w/o packaging)

Hmm... my buddy has one of these: http://www.grimmspeed.com/catalog/images/3....fkuPCigUeD.jpg on his FR-S. What would the odds be to get one made with TEQ on it?

Honestly slim-to-none, unless we had a massive group buy maybe? The image rendering fee for the emblems was $50.. So something like an oil cap might cost a lot more.. but I can ask?
