First off I got a good deal on a st205 engine set (basically everything from a clip) and I bought everything I would need to freshen it up. Then I picked up a low mileage e153 (from a 2000 Camry) and MR2 turbo inners and all-trac outers.
pics from the day I got the engine ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ^^ Manny (presure2) was pretty excited then we did some things to the motor ![]() ![]() ![]() ^^ what a mess ![]() mmm clean the valve cover, heat shield, and intake manifold we coated with a high temp ceramic coating (no pics) and I lagged the IC with this, thermo-tech the "lagging" is an adhesive backed aluminized heat barrier which will reduce heat soak with the IC. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() cleaned it out and this is what I'm running it in. ![]() then axle madness began first, 2 sets ![]() then one set ![]() spacer ![]() ![]() ![]() and spare parts ![]() I then did the wire harness so it would be plug and play for the car. I first wired in a seperat relay box for the IC and fuel pump relays but after I swaped I rewired it to the stock st205 FP and IC replay box, pics later. not the best pic of the motor but something ![]() then the st205 front end went on (see the 3s in the backround) ![]() I really didn't take too many pics of things because every time I was with the motor, I was doing something to make the swap easier. then the fun began Friday night - day one ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() remove motor, clean bay, remove battery tray put in IC pump ![]() ![]() ![]() and with st205 puke tank ![]() I'm tired ![]() ![]() Saturday - day two extend the wire harness ? hell no. Cut a hole in the firwall and put harness through. ![]() played with new e153 tranny, clutch, attach to motor and put in car ![]() ![]() Sunday - day three - the exhaust. I already have a HKS cat-back so Manny made a b pipe - from the berk dp to the HKS. started with this ![]() and it became... ![]() tacked and almost finished ![]() done and a quick paint job (that got a little scratched when installed). Manny says "I stand by my exhaust" ![]() and a few installed ![]() ![]() and the exhaust cut out from Q T P ![]() I have 3" from the turbo to the cat-back (which is 2.5") so as Corey did we installed a butterfly open exhaust valve. I put in a toggle switch so I can open and close the butterfly whenever I want. Quiet cruising with it closed and all the exhaust goes out the back OR I open it up, it gets loud and free flowing exhaust - no restriction ![]() put on a new "2000 twin entry turbo" sticker and done for that day. BTW it started and purred like a CHAMP ! FIRST TRY !!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!1!!! The car runs great and feels INCREDIBLE. Now I have had a couple of (expected) problems. The freakin axles. First, driver's side axle just popped out on a test drive, car towed back to Mannys. next day, have the axle machined to fit in the tranny and added a 1/2 spacer, good as new. then on the second test drive the pass side axle popped out. Car towed back to Mannys. The axle carrier came off the block - the bolts weren't tightened down enough. Sorted that tonight and now it runs perfect, hits boost very well but I think the carrier bearing is bad or the pass side axle is just plain bad. I hear a bit of noise from that side and I think I need another all-trac axle (I think I know where I'll be getting that from) and I'll rebiuld it again. And that's where I'm at right now. The place all the majic happened was presure2's (Manny) garage and I had some help from Manny & Jenn, my woman Stef (hurley97), and Manny's cousin Joey. A small "pit crew" how each did their thing to help me. I'll take and post up some finished pics tomorrow night or so, I've had a stressful and busy 4-5 days. I forgot to thank Manny & Jenn, Stef, and Manny's cousin Joey for pitching in and doing what they did.
Thanks guys ! I did a lot of leg work before the motor went it to make things as easy as possible with little to no "speed bumps" along the way. I got frustrated a few times during the weekend but I kinda expected to at some point. I should post some pics hopefully later today. -------------------- |

Freakin sweet. Three reasons -
1. I didn't think anyone could completely pull off a swap in one week [Allowing for previous leg work etc] 2. Freakin sweet. Three reasons - 1. I didn't think anyone could completely pull off a swap in one week [Allowing for previous leg work etc] day one - pull 5s day 2 - put in 3s/tranny day 3 - connect and fill a few more pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 2. The no re-wiring job is confirmed to work - I knew there had to be a way to do that [You guys gonna detail that process for future swappers?] with some help from the 3sgte/5sfe wiring diagrams and a few calls to Corey (silver94celicaowner) to clarify some things, the wiring is simple as pie. Even easier if you have this ![]() ![]() 3. The electric cutout link ![]() ![]() Badass work guys. it does sound BA and it's a grear boost controller. Open I get 2-3 more lbs ![]() ![]() and the location of the switch ![]() ![]() ![]() and just a pic of the ARSE and the first aid kit. ![]() ![]() I have a pretty complete st205 swap now. I thought about my power daily driving options and an st205 was the only way to go. 2-3 lbs of boost from the cutout means that there are 2-3 lbs of back pressure in the exhaust (even on a 2.5" exhaust).
Pretty good proof of why a bigger exhaust can gain you up to 15hp (if it drops your back pressure from 3psi down to 1psi it's the equiv. of upping the BC by 2psi.... Great clean swap. Great looking midpipe. They say that if you install a few inch long angle cut turndown on the end of the cutout after the cut plate that is smoothes flow and potentially gains a bit more HP (and quiets down whatever blips, burps or pops) that come out of it off throttle or during transitions... Great job. -------------------- 2005 MB C200 Kompressor- K&N, Apexi WS2 Catback, DIY Voltage stabilizer, Intrax Springs, H&R RR swaybar, VDO Boost Gauge @ 6psi, Greddy L7 plugs, +0 Rear tires

I KNEW you were gonna be the recipient of those cams if not the whole motor for a fresh rebuild. So then - what are your projections as a gain from those cams with your setup. I'm truely interested.

I KNEW you were gonna be the recipient of those cams if not the whole motor for a fresh rebuild. So then - what are your projections as a gain from those cams with your setup. I'm truely interested. to be honest, i dont expect big "gains" with them, i just expect them to help extend the powerband a bit. anyway, dustin posted most of the pics i have, so ill just add a few more of the b-pipe i made him. im pretty proud of it, the welds arnt pretty, im very much so still learning, but what im more happy with than anything else is the placement and fit of everything. clearance is good everywhere, and it runs right in the middle of the crossmember and steering rack. not too bad for my first attempt at making a b-pipe, i think. this one shows the whole thing tacked, and in place checking fitment. you can see here how it goes up and over the crossmember, and back down to meet the HKS exhaust. ![]() this is a good shot of the crossmember/ PS rack clearance. this is looking back at the exhaust thru the crossmember. ![]() and a couple of it out, first tacked up, then all welded up. ![]() ![]() dustin covered the installed shots, and the sweet QTP cutout. which BTW, i think sounds absolutly AWESOME. and finally, the money shot: ![]() what a way to spend a weekend with friends. hehe. btw, D, your welcome man. i know i ribbed ya hard all weekend, but you know how we do. ![]() JDM Guy FTMFBBQW!!!!! -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Nice - i assumed with the powerband being smoother the 5S drop off would be lessened and you might gain a few more ponies up top.
Nice B-pipe [That's the hardest exhaust part to fabricate on our cars so the rest is all cake] - if you ever need tips or help with welding LMK - I used to weld for a living back in the day. -------------------- ![]() ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them. and some info for others.
when I got the motor I needed to replace some things. One of the first things I did was get some 3rd gen part #s from MR2OC I then contacted my local toyota dealer, Jeff Watson from Toyotaworld, and kbox.ca for parts. Toyotaworld was slow to get things ordered/shipped so many things I was able to get from my local dealer and from kbox. I expected to replace many gaskets/o-rings ect (and did) to get the motor freshened up so having the full gasket set was very nice to have. All of the tune up and replacement parts I needed I was able to source from the places I listed and some used parts from some UK/overseas guys. Also, I ordered the wire set from toyota (MR2 part#) and the coil wire was too short. I ended up using the coil wire from a cali spec US GT celica. some tranny info The 2000 e153 I bought from a junkyard (used parts dealer) locally and the MR2 turbo axles I was able to get used from MR2OC. The All-Trac axles I was able to get from another local 5th gen owner/member. One funny thing about my tranny/axle combo was my driver's side axle popped out on the first test drive. After trying to get it to "pop" into the tranny we realized that my 2000 tranny was a bit different than the earlier ones that other members use. The space from the end of the axle to the snap ring was shorter in the tranny (I would assume) than the earlier e153s so I have to shave (machined) off the tip of my axle to make it fit properly. here's a pic of the MR2 inner and a normal celica/alltrac inner side by side. ![]() I had to make the top one (MR2) look like the bottom one (celica) so the snap ring would catch in the tranny. Since then, NO probs with the driver's side. also, I had orderded a new nameplate ("T" 2000 twin entry turbo) for the IC, part # 11286-88480 and once the swap was finished it was the finishing touch putting that on ![]() -------------------- |

as i said before, good job to you and to the people that helped.. this is a good example of how swaps should be done.. i'm curious to know where exactly on the firewall you cut to fit the engine harness? did you use the same rubber grommet from the original harness on the firewall?
..also wld like to see some 5sfte vs 3rd gen 3sgte track videos...... ![]() -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Hi batman722, very impressed with the work you have done to your car. I'm in the UK and am putting a 3SGTE from a ST205 into a ST202 droptop - should be interesting.
Please tell me what you have done regarding the axle's. I too will be useing the same gearbox as you - E153. What I want to know is as the output drives of the E153 gearbox is bigger than that of the S series box, did you just change the inner CV joints of the ST205 to the standard axles of the GT. |

i'm curious to know where exactly on the firewall you cut to fit the engine harness? did you use the same rubber grommet from the original harness on the firewall? ![]() ^^ that's the only pic I have. I first decided what spot would be best with the harness, where the ECU sits, and it's a clean spot through the firewall so everything fits nice. We then drilled a hole then measured the size of the sock hole and cut the hole to match. I have the stock rubber grommet over (not screwed in) the hole just like the original spot, just haven't gotten to securing it properly. note: we used the 5s ECU brackets on the 3s ECU to fit it exactly where the 5s one was. Please tell me what you have done regarding the axle's. I too will be useing the same gearbox as you - E153. What I want to know is as the output drives of the E153 gearbox is bigger than that of the S series box, did you just change the inner CV joints of the ST205 to the standard axles of the GT. for the e153, the axles you need are MR2 inner axle stubs (they fit into the tranny) and they bolt onto st185 outer axles (they fit into the celica hubs). Both MR2 and st185 axles are not like the stock celica axles, they each seperate into 2 pieces and and you need inners from one and outers from the other. I also used 1/2inch (12-13mm) spacers in between each piece so they would be long enough for our cars. Snapshotgt posted a pic of his spacer (a few posts up) and I posted a pic on page 1. update. I haven't had much time to mess with the car lately but today I rebuilt the pass side axle. I was leaking grease from the spacer (I didn't use new cork gaskets when I first put it together) and the grease eventually just spun out of it. I could hear the axle make a little noise (from the balls and cage) so I had to get this done. I also put the cruise control back in ![]() and we tightened up the power steering line that was leaking too (banjo bolt). so now the car runs just fine, no real problems - just the axle I didn't do properly to begin with and a few little things but nothing major, and nothing that prevents me from boosting heavily daily ![]() I need to make a vid soon with how much of a difference the exhaust cut-out makes. If I'm in 3rd at about 3k rpms and I floor it the boost builds to about 11 psi and the car is fast. If I open the cut out and do the same thing it instantly builds up to 17 psi and takes off like you wouldn't believe. It's incredible ![]() -------------------- |

I really like how you placed that wideband meter, and tell me, is that a custom made pod that u made so u can put the gauge there or did you buy that somewhere? I wanted to do something the same but that look 10x better than what i had in mind, but i plan to put a boost gauge there. I wanna buy a gauge pod like that if its sold somewhere.

just a quick update.
I installed some tworus brass shifter cable bushings, painted my intake pipe, and replaced the stock turbo to IC coupler with a silicone one. I also had a water bypass hose leak and just about pop on me, it's the hose directly from the main lower water line to the water neck (about 3-4 inches long and elbowed). The 185 hose was too small in diameter so I ended up getting a similar/stronger hose from an auto parts store. It sucked replacing it in but now it's back to 100% The solid shifter bushings are good and bad. The shifting is much more precise but feels a bit notchy. It reminded me of going from a stock shifter to a short shifter. Also getting into 5th and reverse isn't as easy as before. I'm still up in the air about keeping them or just putting brand new ones in (my old ones were worn). other than that, no real problems, just driving it and having fun with it. next week I'm gonna change the oil and plugs before the winter. -------------------- |

yea dustin, get rid of them, what i learned recently.......... Notchy gear shifts = blown tranny (e-153 lsd)(7thgen short shift)
I had the real TRD short shift on my old gt2 and that was great, but still notchy at high rpms.....2nd would notch, and 3rd just wouldn't go in sometimes and it would cost me a whole second in the 1/4 mile. |

went to the dyno today, I thought Jim was coming up here so we could all go but that didn't happen for some reason. Either way he went in Jersey and I went near me.
my results 19.04psi = 329.62hp & 288.64ft tq ![]() then I turned the boost up a bit and went to this 22.35psi = 335hp & 306.72ft tq ![]() and then with the motor a little warm from the runs I started to knock a bit and decided to shut it down 22.5psi = 330.12hp & 307.91ft tq ![]() FYI I never run my car above 17/18psi on the street, I turned up the boost on the dyno just to see what it can do. In a few weeks I will install WI so runing that much boost will be safer with no knock. Ba-Zing. -------------------- |

it looks like youre running out of fuel. art, he had the sniffer in the tailpipe, but had the cutout open, so disregard that a/f chart. ![]() great work d! ::edit:: dustin, i hosted the charts on 6gc, with RPM instead of speed, and with the a/f removed, just to avoid confusion. also a few notes about runs 14 and 18.. you can clearly see the car knock @ ~3600rpm, this is why running this much boost, on pump gas, without WI can get dangerous. especially with a ceramic turbine '20b. in run 18, you can see the factory ECU at work. the run is VERY choppy compared to the earlier runs, due to the stock ecu still recovering from the earlier knock event in run 14. run 18 is also a 4th gear run the earlier runs were in 3rd gear. with the boost log, you can also see how much better the wastegate holds on jims runs VS these, its quite inconsistant, where jims boost log is perfect all the way to redline. ![]() -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Great numbers Dustin, please send me the run files when you get a chance. I would like to pick through them. Thanks. You should make an adapter for your tip so you can block off the muffler so you can install the WB into the exhaust cutout, at keast this way you can log AF.
You can see the advantages of WI between my run and Dustins run. Dustin did not make any more power by throwing another 3psi, where mine contentiously made more power as I turned up the boost. I cant wait to go back to the dyno it was a great experience, and I wouldn't have changed ANYTHING about the way it went down. I got the car all setup the way I wanted, under my conditions, my time, met some great people, a VERY knowledgeable dyno operator/tuner and had a great time doing it. Dustin, If you have the will power to do it, it only took me a few hours total to add the helper spring and I am very pleased how it turned out. It helped me through out the entire Boost range. Even 16psi was dead flat, I highly recommended it. ![]() --------------------

Yeah I was a little drunk last night and I've been fighting the flu but a night of drinking at Manny's made me feel much better ![]() The helper spring is a good idea if I plan on running 19+psi often but I'm not, I'm content with the way it is. There are a few things I should of done better like letting the car/IC cool down a bit more between runs or stepping the boost up little by little for a good comparison of power with psi. Overall I'm wicked happy with the results and I now know I should get WI asap to avoid knock. I know I could of made more than the 335 to the wheels but it was getting dangerous without WI. -------------------- |

That is pretty consistent results, proving what the STOCK GEN3 is capable of, and not some one time random fluke.
I hope more people will realize the real potential and power that the STOCK GEN3 actaully makes. Its simple, if you are starting fresh and want to swap. Dont bother with the GEN2, you will be highly disappointed. When for the same amount of money you can swap to a GEN3 and make GOBS more power. For those that dont know, and this is first post they read, heres a quick overview. A STOCK GEN2 with intake, exhaust, FCD, ~15psi and WI can make about 240whp. A STOCK GEN3 with intake, exhaust makes 320+whp @ ~18psi. GEN3 FTW You guys are putting 6GCs on the map! Nice workk. X10000000 Erik, I HOPE IT CONTINUES!!!!!!!!!!!! --------------------
